Meet the Filmmakers
WRITER, DIRECTOR, EXECUTIVE PRODUCER Joanna Brooks began her creative career as a professional dancer and choreographer. In 2005, she founded and directed Brooks & Company Dance, an award-winning dance theater company here in Atlanta. In 2013, Joanna completed her MFA in Film & Television at the Savannah College of Art & Design. She has since worked as a writer, producer and director, continuing to develop her own projects while working for other production companies. She worked as a Development Producer at Crazy Legs Productions, as well as a writer on their true-crime scripted series, along with other shows on Investigation Discovery, Oxygen, and TVOne. Joanna has also been a writer on Still a Mystery and is currently working a new true-crime series filming in Atlanta. She is also the creator of a children's competition series currently in development with a Canada-based production company. Joanna has served on the Alumni Voices Panel at SCAD’s aTV Fest and has been a contributing writer at the Georgia Hollywood Review. She continues to write feature narrative screenplays with the dream of one day directing them.
EMILY CARDONE DENNIS
This boots-on-the-ground EXECUTIVE PRODUCER was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Emily has wandered around the United States, working on various TV shows and films. Since graduating with her MFA in Film & TV at Savannah College of Art and Design, she has had the opportunity to work for Producers and Directors for many different studios including Paramount, Netflix, Apple+, Nat Geo, and many more. Her series credits include Mistresses, Ozark and Servant, and her film credits include Allegiant, Thor: Ragnorak, Logan Lucky, Insurgent, Den of Thieves and many more. Her favorite film she’s ever worked on was Magic Mike XXL, and the most meaningful have been the short films she’s produced with Director Joanna Brooks and Editor Sara Bennett. She’s a huge animal rights activist and has two rescue chihuahua mixes who will be turning 12 this year. Emily is an active swimmer and has had the opportunity to travel around the world. She loves making things happen!
CINEMATOGRAPHER Ben lives and works in Atlanta GA with his family. He works in the film industry helping manage the many aspects of the visual storytelling that is film and television. Whether it is documentary-style or narrative, Ben enjoys the challenges of taking an idea and turning it into something tangible. Add in the collaborative nature of the film world and it’s a dream come true for Ben. He has worked on The Avengers franchise, Allegiant, and Table 19 among many others. He has varied interests and loves to constantly learn. From woodworking and playing bagpipes to scuba diving and being a grillmaster, he feels there is so much the world has to teach us, and he tries to bring all of this back into his primary passion: filmmaking.
